New Overtime Rule for White Collar Exemptions May Not Be Released Until Late 2016
Earlier this year, the Department of Labor (DOL) issued a proposed rule that included a proposed increase in the current minimum salary requirement for the overtime exemption for white collar employees. Recently, the Solicitor of Labor indicated at a panel discussion that the final rule is not likely to be released before late 2016, giving employers more time to prepare for the new rule. It was initially expected that the new rule would be released and go into effect in late 2015 or early 2016. At this time, no official timeline has been released by the DOL, but it is still expected that the rule will be effective sometime in 2016.
